'Qi' meaning energy and 'gong' meaning work applied to discipline, has its roots in Chinese medicine and martial arts dating back some 4,000 years. There is believed to be a field of energy which runs through our body and this practice helps it to keep flowing freely. Qigong is an art which helps one cultivate their vital life force through rhythmic breathing, slow and sometimes rapid movement, static poses which are held for a period of time and deep focus. This is a form of energy management which can be used in a number of ways some of which include: Medical Qigong which supports the physical body.Spiritual Qigong which allows us to bring in 'more light'.Martial art Qigong, where it can be used as a non-violent method of self-defense.Healing Qigong which is used to cultivate and push energy through the pathways of the body and out of the hands, usually practiced by a master, to aid healing in another. We work with the five elements from which we are made, fire, water, air, matter and consciousness or 'ether'.
